The book, narrated in turn by McGregor and Boorman, is delightful. I recently watched the DVD and fell immediately in love with it, so much so I promptly tracked down a secondhand copy of the book to immerse myself in. This book, published in late 2004, accompanies the 10-part television documentary of the motorbiking adventure, now available here in the UK on DVD. I’m often not very quick off the mark at the best of times, but when it came to discovering the wonder that is the 20,000 mile road trip from London to New York (the long way round) undertaken by actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman I am positively turtle-like. Mirroring the plot of Twilight, Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined follows 17-year-old Beaufort Swan as he leaves the sunny environment of Phoenix, Arizona where he has spent most of his life with his mother, Renée Dwyer, to the gloomy town of Forks, Washington to spend the rest of his high school career with his estranged father, police chief Charlie Swan.Įven though Beau never had many friends in Phoenix, he quickly attracts attention at his new school, and is quickly befriended by several students. An audiobook ( CD) was released by Penguin Random House on the same day. The book was originally published on Octoas part of an "oversized flip-book pairing" with Twilight to celebrate the original novel's tenth anniversary. However, it has to be acknowledged that this is a very exciting story with plenty of the expected gunfights. For me the story could have been more “gritty” in its dialogue. The author may have intended it that way in the plot, or the targeted readers maybe include young readers as well as adults. Admittedly the heroes seem to be a lot more articulate in their speech and often eager to express themselves as lucid and educated but it felt at odds with their situation. I felt sure that more vernacular, maybe bad, language would have been common in those times and settings. At the start of the story and at later points I found some of the language and terms used to be a bit too contemporary, even tame at times. The main characters are quite well drawn and so are some of the less desirable individuals they meet along the way in their adventurous quest. They have a detective agency in a tough town with the story being told by Cash Holliday who is equally proficient with a six gun as his father was reputed to be. Set in 1896 this western has an interesting theme with the two main characters as the mature progeny of Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp. 7/7/2023 0 Comments Freedom daniel suarezHis task is “to grok the shamanic interface,” which means to embark on an updated Pilgrim’s Progress that will end at last in his passing through the mythic Cloud Gate. Suddenly, Pete finds himself sprung and drafted for a Grail-like mission. Consummate insider Jon Ross, for instance, describes the Daemon “as an open source cybernetic organism…that is spreading across the globe.” For the benefit of a still skeptical ex-colleague (and any bemused readers) he adds, “the Daemon is real, and it’s bigger than all of us-because it is all of us.” Whatever it actually is, advocates and adversaries by the millions line up to support or abort the Daemon. But what exactly is the Daemon? Since it’s derived from an online video game, dedicated gamers come closest to comprehension. No one except for rogue computer genius Matthew Sobol, that is, and he’s dead, leaving behind as a memento mori the scariest legacy the planet has ever seen. That novel ended with Detective Sergeant Peter Sebeck of the Ventura County (Calif.) sheriff’s office in jail, the government’s fall guy for a bizarre series of events that no one has a real handle on. The colliding armies are virtual, but the bloodshed isn’t, in a sequel to Daemon (2009). 7/7/2023 0 Comments Madeleine roux booksThe girls realize that something dark is lurking behind their foray into fiction-and they will have to rewrite their own arcs if they hope to escape this nightmare with their lives.
